Carnelian is a natural red stone of the Chalcedony family which has been used for millennia for jewellery. The 8×8 mm square beads are known as 'millefiore' or 'thousand flowers' and are made from drawn molten multicoloured glass canes which are then cut into beads so that the 'flower' pattern is visible.
