This personalised "Sheriff's Badge" was designed to slide onto a guitar strap and has a hook to ensure that it stays in place. The badge was cast in a mould made of cuttlefish bone - a technique dating from the Medieval period. The mould was hand-carved directly into the cuttlefish bone, and the brass slide and hook were cast in one with the pewter.
As pewter is a relatively soft metal, the Client was advised to not place too much stress on it. Pewter can be left to oxidise to a grey patina, or may be polished by hand with Brasso or equivalent to retain the shine. (Soot and kerosene may also be used for a traditional approach!)
